69th Golden Globes Wish List: It’s My Last Globes Post Today, I Promise!

In hopes that The Help wins big tonight...

For the record, this is all based on what I’ve seen, as geographic dilemmas (i.e. not living in a major market) often keeps me from viewing many of the bigger awards contenders. These are what I think should win, not what I think will win.

To clarify, I’ll denote which nominees I haven’t seen; a category with no citations indicates that I’ve seen all of the nominees. In any case, I hope you have a great time watching the Golden Globes!

Best Motion Picture Drama: The Help

Best Motion Picture Musical/Comedy: Bridesmaids (haven’t seen The Artist)

Best Director: Hugo/Martin Scorsese (haven’t seen The Artist/Michel Hazanavicius)

Best Screenplay: The Descendants/Nat Faxon, Alexander Payne, and Jim Rash (haven’t seen The Artist/Michel Hazanavicius)

Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama: The Descendants/George Clooney (haven’t seen Shame/Michael Fassbender)

Best Actress in a Motion Picture Drama: The Help/Viola Davis (only seen The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo/Rooney Mara and The Help/Viola Davis)

Best Actor in a Motion Picture Musical/Comedy: 50/50/Joseph Gordon-Levitt (haven’t seen The Artist/Jean Dujardin or The Guard/Brendan Gleeson)

Best Actress in a Motion Picture Musical/Comedy: Bridesmaids/Kristen Wiig (haven’t seen Carnage ladies Jodie Foster and Kate Winslet)

Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture: Beginners/Christopher Plummer (haven’t seen A Dangerous Method/Viggo Mortensen or Drive/Albert Brooks)

Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture: The Help/Octavia Spencer (haven’t seen Albert Nobbs/Janet McTeer or The Artist/Bérénice Bejo)

Best Original Score: Hugo/Howard Shore (haven’t seen The Artist/Ludovic Bource or W.E./Abel Korzeniowski)

Best Original Song: The Help/“The Living Proof”

Best Animated Feature Film: Rango (haven’t seen Arthur Christmas)

No preference for Foreign Language Film since I haven’t seen any of them.

This is the point where I’d delve into who I’d omit from each race, but I sadly haven’t seen enough of the nominees. Then again, this means that my commentary on who should win is null and void as well…

But enough about me: who do you want to win big tonight?

2 have chimed in:

  1. I was a little disappointed in Viola losing Actress. I'd be happy for Meryl if she won the Oscar, something she'd been robbed of so many times, but Viola and Michelle have been two people I've been saying deserved Oscars for a while now. The best possible thing would be a three way tie, imo. Obviously that won't happen, but it would be awesome. This is probably the most likely year for it anyway, since all three seem to be pretty close. Maybe a two way tie? Still highly unlikely, but it's happened before.

    1. I was disappointed by Viola's loss as well. I still think she's getting the Oscar, though I'm not 100% sure about it... SAG will likely be our big indicator. At the moment, I think Streep is right behind Davis, closely followed by Williams.
